I’ve been cruisin’ around Twitter, the blogosphere, and all things writerly this morning. With NaNoWriMo just a few days away, it seems to be all I can think about lately. I’m so excited!
Even more exciting are all the cool tools I’m finding, not to mention options for live AND online meet ups.
There are Twitter hashtags like #nanowrimo, #wrimo, and #nano where writers tweet all things NaNo.
There are in person meet ups for every region in the country (if you’ve signed up for NaNoWriMo, you can find local meet up info under your region tab.)
There are online salons and meet up options for those without the time or ability to travel to a local meet up. I found one of those this morning (which led me to my next nifty find) in the form of an online NaNoWriMo salon over at Scribe Tutor. Every night during NaNo, there will be salons where writers can hang out, talk shop, or have Word Wars. (Web badges will be awarded nightly.)
Which brings me to my next neat little NaNo tool – Write or Die, Desktop Edition. Go head to head with other writers in a Word War – set a goal, a time limit, and race to see who writes to the finish line first. Use Twitter and the hashtag #wordwar to find folks to compete with, or send invites to your friends and fellow Wrimo buddies! There is a free online version, but the desktop edition is reasonable at just $10. I haven’t test driven it yet, but man ‘o man…I can see having a few Word Wars with my children and Wrimo buddies. I can’t wait!
Now if I could just find a plug-in or widget that I like (and that works) so I can track my NaNoWriMo word count over there in my sidebar – I’d be one happy woman!
Have you found cool tools or resources for NaNoWriMo? By all means, please share! We’ve only got a few days left before the insanity begins…

Thanks for these resources, Sandi. I’m plunging into NaNoWriMo for the first time this year (after having considered it for several years before this).

Congrats on taking the plunge, Lisa!
I’m a Wrimo Rebel this year – working on a non-fiction book. It’s the perfect “excuse” to get off my duff and get one of my WIPs finished.
What are you working on? You can find me on the nanowrimo.org site as hexemaus – look me up!

Hi Sandy – thanks for all the great resources. I’m loving your blog. I just plunged into NaNoWriMo for the first time as well, and also as a rebel, doing nature writing/memoir. What fun! I hope you don’t mind if I look you up, too. I’m pinemeadowpond on the official site. The word count widget is working on my wordpress.org blog, at least at the moment; I’ll see what happens. Is the rebel image above available to use or is that yours? Thanks again for all the useful tips on writing. I’m most appreciative.

Congrats Beth! I’ll look you up when I log in tomorrow.
As for the image, it’s not mine. If you go to the NaNoWriMo forums, scroll down to the Wrimo Rebels. Somewhere in the threads is a post about graphics for Rebels. Someone made them last year and put them up again for this year.
