What Makes a Gr-r-eat Tagline?

What Makes a Gr-r-eat Tagline?

Taglines are advertising slogans for your blog. When I think about memorable advertising, a few great slogans that come to mind are Got Milk? Just Do it, and Where’s the Beef? When you see or hear those words, you automatically know where they came from: milk, Nike, and Wendy’s. If you thought about Frosted Flakes and Tony the Tiger when you read this blog post title it means “They’re Gr-r-eat!” is an effective slogan because it’s memorable.

What makes a great tagline?

Your tagline should state your blogs purpose, mission, and/or brand. Each of the examples below let you know exactly what the blog is about.

Each tagline is very fitting for the purpose of the blog. They are short and informative. The purpose is clearly stated. When I read those taglines, I pretty much know what to expect when I start reading and that is why a great tagline can make or break your blog. It’s that sub-title that gives you the opportunity to reach out and grab the reader’s attention.

One tagline that has stuck in my head is the one from Scary Duck. It simply says: Not scary. Not a duck. It sparks your curiosity doesn’t it? For that reason, it’s one of my favorites. It sparked my curiosity and it’s something I will remember.

If you’ve not come up with a tagline for your blog yet, you should get your creative juices flowing and take advantage of the opportunity to create an attention getter. Remember the purpose is to let people know what they can expect from your blog by keeping your blogs brand, promise, and/or mission in mind. Make sure it’s informative and clear, and keep it short and catchy. Most importantly, make it memorable; you want unique visitors to keep coming back. Of course, the tagline alone won’t keep people reading—you have to build relationships and create great content—but use your tagline to grab their attention.

Tag! You’re it!
